The Legacy of Audrey Stottler

The inspiration for Journey North Opera Company

The inspiration for Journey North Opera Company comes from one of our founding members of our Board of Directors, Audrey Stottler. A Minnesota native, Audrey was known internationally as a dramatic soprano, singing works of Verdi, Strauss, Mahler, and Wagner. But it was her signature role, the title role in Puccini’s Turandot, that she will forever be known. She performed Turandot in opera houses across the globe, including San Francisco Opera, the Royal Opera House, the Vienna Staatsoper, and the Metropolitan Opera. The strength and vulnerability she brought to the role cemented her as one of the greatest Turandots ever to perform.

Audrey was many things; international opera singer, accomplished actor and director, teacher, wife, and mother, but most of all, she was a mentor and friend. We dedicate this company and our performances to her memory and hope to keep her spirit alive.

“Shut up and sing.”
